How to Remove Algae Stains in My Pool?

There's nothing pretty about algae in your pool. Algae are plant-like single-cell micro-organisms that are present in the air and spread by wind and rain.

In swimming pools, algae can form when protective products or Chlorine levels are low.

TROUBLESHOOTING AND TREATING BLACK SPOT ALGAE:

Pirates may fear the dreaded black spot, but Black Spot algae are easily taken care of. Black Spot algae appear in all areas of your pool. Real troublemakers, form protective layers that make them resilient to chlorine.

Troubleshooting and Treating Black Spot Algae:

Check the pH level

Make sure it's between 7.2 and 7.6, then boost the chlorine levels using Buffer.

Turn the pump off

This is to stop water flow to ensure more accurate targeting. Brush the affected areas vigorously to remove the protective coating from the algae.

Add Pool Blackspot Killer or Pool Algaecide

Add this directly on top of the affected area and leave overnight. Vacuum those pesky particles to waste, then use Sparkle Clarifier Tablet to bring the sparkle back.

Phosphate Remover

For additional preventative measures, add Phosphate Remover and Sparkle Clarifier Tablet.

Note: Black Spot treatment contains chlorine. If using large amounts due to severe infestation, check the chlorine levels after the treatment, then boost if necessary.

TREATING MUSTARD ALGAE:

Mustard algae have a yellow, powdery appearance and tend to thrive in the shady part of the pool - an appropriate spot for scum to hang out. Like Black Spot algae, they have protective layers and are therefore more resistant to chlorine.

TREATING MUSTARD ALGAE:

Check the pH level of the pool

Check to ensure it's between 7.2 and 7.6, then boost the chlorine levels using protective products like Pool Ezy Sanitiser.

Turn the pump off

This is to stop water flow to ensure more accurate targeting.

Brush the affected areas

Brush the affected areas vigorously to remove the protective coating of the algae. Add Pool Algaecide directly on top of the affected area and leave overnight.

Clarifier

If your pool is cloudy, it means that there are lots of suspended dead algae cells in the pool. Use Floc Granules or Liquid Clarifier to send them straight to the pool's floor. (Refer to Murk and Cloudy Water treatment guide).

Vacuum

Vacuum those pesky particles to waste, then use Sparkle Clarifier Tablet to bring the sparkle back.

Additional Prevention

For an additional preventative measure, add Phosphate Remover and Sparkle Clarifier Tablet.

Note: All cleaning equipment should remain in the pool when treated to prevent re-infestation.

TREATING GREEN ALGAE:

Green algae grow fast and can turn a pool green overnight. You'll want to get rid of it just as fast.

Troubleshooting and Treating Green Algae:

Check the pH level of the pool

Check to ensure it's between 7.2 and 7.6, then boost the chlorine levels using protective products like Pool Ezy Sanitiser.

Pool Algaecide

Add Pool Algaecide to the pool and leave overnight.

Sink Suspended Particles

If your pool is cloudy, it means that there are lots of suspended dead algae cells in the pool. Use Liquid Clarifier to send them straight to the pool's floor. (Refer to Murky and Cloudy Water treatment guide).

Vacuum

Vacuum those pesky particles to waste, then use Sparkle Clarifier Tablet to bring the sparkle back.

For additional preventative measures, add Phosphate Remover and Natural Clarifier.

TREATING MURKY AND CLOUDY WATER:

When it comes to swimming, the only thing worse than a cloudy day is a cloudy pool. Fortunately, cloudy water is easily cleared up.
Always check the pH level of the pool to make sure it's between 7.2 and 7.6, then boost the chlorine levels using Pool EZY Purifier if necessary.

Troubleshooting and Treating Murky and Cloudy Water:

Remove mild cloudiness

If your pool is a bit cloudy and the bottom is visible, this can be fixed with Liquid Clarifier

Remove heavy cloudiness

If your pool is very cloudy and you can't see the bottom, it means there are lots of suspended particles or dead algae cells in the pool. Use Liquid Clarifier to send them straight to the pool's floor.

Vacuum and clarify

Vacuum those pesky particles to waste, then use Sparkle Clarifier Tablet to bring the sparkle back.

TREATING POOL STAINS:

Just like your favourite t-shirt, a pool can become the victim of an unsightly stain. They are either caused by metals such as iron, copper or manganese entering the pool water or organic matter such as pigments from plants that have accumulated in the pool.

Troubleshooting and Treating Pool Stains:

Check pH level

Start by ensuring the pH level of your pool is between 7.2 and 7.6.

Use a powerful stain remover

Add All Purpose Stain Remover.

If the stain is metal-based

Then the addition of Calcium & Metal Remover is required.

Check pH level again

When the treatment is complete, ensure that the pH level is between 7.2 and 7.6.

Note: All In One Stain Remover will only lift stains. Metal Remover will remove the metals to the filter and ultimately out of the pool.

Stains in Fibreglass pools could also be caused by Osmosis. Should this be the cause of the stain then the use of Fibreglass Stain Remover is recommended.
